Deb grew up singing the songs she learned from her grandmother, a hard
working woman who sang as she picked cotton and worked the farm in Northeast
Texas. Deb began playing the songs of the rural South on ukulele at age 11. In
1971, Deb moved to Austin and had a chance to play at the Checquered Flag with
some of the great Texas songwriters like Alan Damron, Rusty Weir, and Shake
Russell. One of her tunes won national recognition at the Winfield festival.
After a bout of dulcimer-fever, Deb returned to her true love, the ukulele.
She has recorded CDs of uke music with great players and has produced a DVD of
basic techniques for uke. Deb is known as a great teacher and treasured by many
who were led to the ukulele through her music.
